I like both moves but I don't understand how you can praise the Atkins deal. We paid slightly more then he is actually worth(even as a flier). He has gotten worse every year since his big year. A change of scenery can be a good thing but leaving Coors for the AL East pitchers won't be an easy task for him.

Money should and is not a factor for the Orioles at this time. Also I think the team would prefer that Johnson be their 8th inning set up guy. and hopefully Gonzales becomes an effective closer so I won't have to hear BRUCE POSNER'S CONSTANT KVETCHING about the Orioles trade of George Sherrill.

The flier on Atkins makes sense. Good move.

I have to disagree with you on Gonzales though.
Every season he has been healthy, he has been fantastic.
He is the closer. You don't pay 12-16 Million for a set-up man. In the AL East, a lefty closer is a huge advantage.
Its just for 2 years, to start, but, he will solidify an otherwise very young bullpen. With young pitching, you have GOT to win the games your supposed to win.
As far as a 2nd rounder, its all a crap shoot, but, don't forget, until the contract is up, WHO KNOWS whats going to happen.

One, they can trade him at some point and get prospects. Two, if he leaves here as a Type A or B free agent, then the O's will get the pick back from whatever team signs him.

I don't think you should worry about the pick.
As far as the money goes, the O's have so much surplus it isn't even funny. Remember the days of $97 Million payroll and being the highest in MLB? This isn't gonna strap them for cash or anything. The payroll is at $47, thats nothing. We WANT them to spend money. We WANT the O's name out there, so maybe other Free Agents will look at Baltimore again. Just think of how many more games we will win with MG there instead of Ray. lol.
