Cakes Calls Out Lugo For Total Lack of Hustle–O’s Waste Another Strong Pitching Performance–Go Down to M’s 3-1

Jim Palmer said it –not me.  The outspoken Hall of Famer criticized Julio Lugo for not running out a broken bat grounder to short. He continued to insinuate that Manager Trembley should have been waiting in the dugout to blast Lugo. But this never happened. Not a word was uttered to Lugo. The O’s lost again tonight, wasting a top effort by David Hernandez–going 6 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. One run on 4 hits, failure to advance lead runners, and generally a lack of timely hitting have to the demise of the O’s lately.

LEADERSHIP OF THE TEAM STARTS WITH THE MANAGER. TREMBLEY IS A BULLPEN COACH. AS SOON AS HE IS RELIEVED OF HIS DUTIES YOU’LL SEE SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT FROM THE TEAM. AT LEAST THE STARTING PITCHING HAS BEEN PRETTY GOOD. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU COULD SAY THAT ABOUT THE ORIOLES.

Palmer was dead-on with that comment. It’s an embarrassment to everything baseball that Trembley is seemingly OK with the lack of fundamentals and hustle this team shows.

He’s either unaware or ignoring it. Either way, he needs to go.

I rarely agree with Palmer (he’s a pompous know-it-all who talks down to viewers and listeners) — but he’s spot on with this one — Lugo should’ve been chastized and benched immediately. There’s NO excuse for that.
