The Maryland men’s tennis team won all three doubles matches and carried the momentum into singles action to defeat the 51st-ranked Miami Hurricanes, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts. It is the Terps (5-12, 2-5 ACC) first-ever victory over the Hurricanes.
“I am so pleased for the guys,” said head coach Kyle Spencer. “We have obviously been struggling this year. We’ve played so many tight matches and they’ve never given up. They’ve never quit. I’m so happy for the guys. It’s a big-time win.”
Maryland got off to a fast start in doubles as No. 24 Maros Horny and John Collins dispatched of Omar Aly and Gabriel Flores, 8-3, and juniors Jesse Kiuru and Andy Magee defeated Marco Stancati and Mark Schanerman, 8-2, to secure the doubles point for the Terps. For Horny and Collins, it is their 12th victory of the season.
