It’s Tough to Take Down “The Evil Empire”——Heartbreaking, Gut Wrenching, Goes Down in the Annals of Bad Losses—-Yankees Take The Birds to the Brink Of Elimination

October 10th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Baltimore Orioles Baseball

Just some points 2 hours after the end of the game

Perhaps equal to the worse loss in Orioles history –that being either Game 3 of the 69 World Series when Tommy Agee took 5 runs off the board with 2 incredible catches or Game 4 when Ron Swododa made the circus catch to prevent the O’s from taking the lead in the 9th

Let’s get it straight–the Yankees won this game –we didn’t lose it–Their superior depth allowed them to bring a talent like Ibanez off the bench–Can you even imagine that he was on the bench

Furthermore it’s our anemic bats that are doing us in—Postseason–JJ is 3-17, Adam Jones is 2-16, Jim Thome is 1-11, and Matt is 1-17.

In the long run,if the O’s can’t bounce back it’s the loss of Nick Markakis that has done us in. The Yanks are freely throwing deep inside against the O’s—-Reynolds is questionable for Game 4.  Has this effected the O’s. I don’t know–but there is little complaint from any of the Orioles—now.

Gonzalez was fantastic, with the only run he allowed coming off a poor play by Adam Jones.

The O’s have bounced back all year but now this is a huge hurdle. Buck is calling on Joe Saunders to try to save the day leaving Hammel for a game 5 rematch with CC.

One thing Buck said post game that I thought was true Buck. He promised that if the O’s have a 1 run lead in the 9th–Jim Johnson will take the mound.

I still believe this series is not over. I still believe in this band of Orioles.

Umpiring is typically terrible. Balls and strikes are not even close to reality. This has the Birds swinging at pitches out of the zone.
Granted that Hones, Weiters, Hardy have been swinging and missing at too many terrible pitches, but the count has much to do with it as we’ll as the expanded strike zone.
As for Ibanez, does steroids ring a bell?
A 40 year old on a cold night sits on the freezing bench and hits 2 homers. This from a previous to this year unproductive performer to the degree that the Phillies cut him loose 3years ago?
    Just sayin.
Even so whatever happens, the Birds are building for a very competitive team for years to come..just add Bundy, Glausman and a free agent or 2 to this base, and we have become the Devil Rays of 2008…all good! Transformation, baby!
