Press Release on the Fate of Devin Burns

October 25th, 2012 · No Comments · Maryland Football

University of Maryland head football coach Randy Edsall on Thursday announced that quarterback Devin Burns (Lisfranc) and wide receiver Marcus Leak (fractured toe) will be out for the season. “Obviously this is something that is very tough on both of these guys and our team,” Edsall said. “I feel for both Devin and Marcus because I know they want to be out there competing. Both have been team-first guys who have done everything we have asked, and we will be here to support them as they begin the rehab process.”

Burns, a sophomore, switched positions from wide receiver to quarterback after C.J. Brown was injured during the preseason. On the season, Burns saw action in three games. His most extensive playing time came when he took over for an injured Perry Hills vs. North Carolina State, rushing for 50 yards and one touchdown. He also completed three of four passes for 47 yards and helped lead the Terps on three second-half scoring drives.

Leak has played in all seven games during his sophomore season. He ranks second on the team in receptions (23), receiving yards (393) and touchdown receptions (two). He turned in his best performance of the season vs. North Carolina State, setting a career-high with 94 yards on four receptions, including a career-long 47-yard reception from Hills. from umterps.com
