Tenth-ranked Jimmy Sheptock placed second at 184 pounds to lead a group of over 20 Maryland wrestlers Sunday at the Nittany Lion Open at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University. Approximately 500 wrestlers from over 30 teams competed in the annual tournament which featured many of the nation’s top grapplers.
Sheptock was one of two placers for the Terps. Christian Boley, ranked 14th at 197, finished in third place. In addition to Boley and Sheptock, 13th-ranked Geoffrey Alexander (133) andShyheim Brown (141), who wrestled unattached, reached the quarterfinals.
“We did a lot of good things [today] and we got a good idea of the areas we need to improve,” said head coach Kerry McCoy. “It was good for Jimmy [Sheptock] to see [Ed] Ruth. We also had a few other good match ups that will be important for later in the year. We have to focus on getting better and be ready for the duals next weekend.” from umterps.com
