Great Day For Randy and His staff as Terps Climb to Top 30 Recruiting Class

Super event at the Stamp Student Union last night as the Football introduced its 22 man recruiting class to members of the MGN and Terrapin Nation in general.

Tune into Terp talk tonight as head Coach Randy Edsall will be on to discuss his 30th ranked recruiting class. The late addition of Taivon Jacobs and Yannick Ngakoue (from Friendship Collegiate Academy) bumped the class ranked up 15 spots. Edsall was able to snatch Jacobs away from Ohio State and Urban Meyer with an in home visit in the final days. Jacobs is a 4 star WR. Yannick is a 6’2 225 MLB who will make an immediate impact for the Terps.

It was my first meeting with Deon Long the JUCO 5 star, who originally was with Locksley in New Mexico. First of all, he seemed ecstatic to be back home and told me one of the biggest influences on him returning was his buddy Stefon Diggs. These 2 guys will form a wide receiver combo the likes of which Maryland has never seen.

There were raves all around for Shane Cockerille whose QB stock is rising everyday. CJ Brown was in tremendous spirits anxious yo return to action. His participation in the spring football practices will be limited. Over the next week I will publish synopsis’s on all of the 22 new Terps.

So just how much does the move to Big 10 influence this upgrade in top prospect recruiting?

of the 22 more than likely 3-4 won’t be as good as expected and won’t contribute. a couple will unfortunetly get unjured and won’t have any real impact, a couple will probably never make it to the first day of fall semester. that’s the reality not just for recruits of maryland but every school.

anytime you can get a player that ohio st wants, that’s pretty pretty good.

i would have to think the chance to play in the big 10 as opposed to playing in the acc is a big selling point, particularly for kids living near college park or along the eastern seaboard for kids who are looking to stay somewhat close to home. easy to fly to md with 3 airports in the general area to from fl ( 2.5 hrs or less) or georgia rather than fly to wisconsin or nebraska. i guess they have an airport in nebraska though with so much flat rural land you could probably land almost anywhere. just watch out for that tractor!

Locksley is considered among the best in the business at closing.

More than a decade ago, Locksley delivered for former head coach Ralph Friedgen even before Friedgen took over after Ron Vandelinden was fired in 2000. As Maryland’s recruiting coordinator from 1998 to 2003, Locksley assembled the classes that provided the foundation for three seasons of at least 10 victories from the 2001-03 seasons. Friedgen never won as many as 10 games in his final seven seasons at Maryland.

Locksley also was a successful recruiter as an assistant coach at Florida and Illinois. He was fired after only two seasons as New Mexico’s head coach. Edsall hired Locksley to run the offense and do what he does best: get players. This season’s class is ranked as high as 30th, which isn’t surprising to Good Counsel Coach Bob Milloy.

Locksley is “just from another planet,” Milloy said. “I’ve never seen anybody work a room and talk to kids like he does. And he just sells ’em.”
