Terrapins Scrimmage at Dunbar High

The running backs and offense were on display as the Maryland football team traveled to Baltimore for a team scrimmage at Dunbar High School Saturday.

The practice marked Maryland’s first road trip during spring ball. The Terps scheduled two scrimmages at local high schools in the spring to widen Maryland’s reach.

“We’re all part of the state of Maryland and we all need to support each other, so it’s good for us to come up here and support the city of Baltimore and Dunbar High School,” said head coach Randy Edsall.

“It means a lot to me to be out here,” said quarterback Ricardo Young. “It was the first time we got to display in front of the public. I think for our program, it widens our horizon for our fan base. I think we’ve got a lot of people seeing we can actually play ball.”

Wide receiver Deon Long started the scrimmage off with a 65-yard reception down the left sideline from Young. Running back Brandon Ross finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown carry.

Ross and Albert Reid each ran in two touchdowns, while Joe Riddle finished with one. Dailey threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Amba Etta, and Young responded with a 60-yard pass to Ross for another touchdown.

In a play similar to one against North Carolina last season, Ross ran down the left sideline with the defense behind him. Against North Carolina, Ross was cornered and taken down at the 2-yard line. In the scrimmage, Ross blew past the defense to carry the ball to the endzone.  from umterps.com
