After losing two hotly contested games to Miami, Maryland won the series finale over the Hurricanes, 7-2, on Sunday at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium behind seven strong innings from starter Jake Stinnett.
Stinnett, who pitched five scoreless innings at George Mason on Wednesday, retired 13 of the first 15 Miami batters and held the Hurricanes to one run on three hits with six strikeouts to earn his third consecutive victory and improve to 4-3. In his last three starts, Stinnett has a 1.42 ERA and is averaging 8.53 strikeouts per nine.
After totaling 13 hits in 22 innings in the first two games of the series, Maryland’s offense came out in support of Stinnett with seven runs on 14 hits including three each for K.J. Hockaday and Blake Schmit. Four different Terps had at least one RBI led by two apiece fromJack Cleary and Schmit. from umterps.com
