On the lookout for a dual-threat gunslinger who is equally adept inside and outside the pocket, the Terps snapped up their man on April 25. Maryland has had an offer out to Washington (D.C.) St. John’s quarterback William Ulmer for over a year, and while the four-star recruit’s profile has risen considerably since then, he opted to stick with his hometown school.
“I’m a Terp – hometown love,” said Ulmer, the 10th rated quarterback prospect in the nation, according to Rivals. “This is great; I’m in a great situation right now. I want to thank all my family, my coaches and my teammates. This is just amazing.”

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Ulmer has actually been in College Park each of the last two days. He and his father stopped by the campus April 24 for a personal meeting with the Terps’ coaches, and they returned again for a private sit-down with head coach Randy Edsall on April 25.

“The coaches, they said I’m the leader of my class,” Ulmer said. “They said it all starts with the quarterbacks, and from there you just have to lead and lead by example. They said I could be a big part of what they’re doing there. And, you know, it’s a family here, and we’re going to do whatever we can to win a title.”
