Jimmy Reed Goes 8 Strong Innings as Terps Defeat Clemson 7-2

Maryland received another sterling pitching performance from Jimmy Reed and pounded out 14 hits in a 7-2 win over 18th-ranked Clemson on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Reed, the reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week, quieted the Tiger bats. The senior lefty struck out a career-high 11 batters and scattered four hits over eight innings. Reed has pitched at least eight innings in three of his last four starts and has an ERA of 1.41 in his last four.

The Terrapin offense provided plenty of support for its ace totaling 14 hits including five extra-base hits, two of which were solo home runs from Kyle Convissar and Jordan Hagel. The Terps’ 14 hits tied a team high for the most hits in an ACC game this season.

Convissar announced his return to the Maryland lineup with a 3-for-4 outing, which included his first homer of the season in the third inning to stretch the Terps’ lead to 4-0. Hagel followed in the fourth with a homer of his own, his second of the season, to increase the advantage to five.

Hagel along with Jack Cleary, LaMonte Wade and Charlie White all recorded two hits. Hagel and Cleary each added two RBI as well.
