The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (13-2, 5-1 B1G) beat Big Ten opponent Rutgers 4-0 Sunday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Junior Sarah Sprink scored twice to lead the Terrapins.
The Terrapins controlled both ends of the field to win their last eight games since Sept. 26. Maryland outshot Rutgers (6-9, 1-6), 26-5 with 14 penalty corners to the Scarlet Knights’ two.
Sprink opened the scoring just under five minutes in when she banged in a shot off a penalty corner set up by Katie Gerzabek and Anna Dessoye.
In the 12th minute, senior Maxine Fluharty buried a rebound off another penalty corner to make it a two-goal lead for the Terps. Maryland led 2-0 at halftime.
