Jake Layman tied a season-high with 21 points and added a career-best 11 rebounds as No. 17 Maryland beat Oklahoma State 73-64 on Sunday to improve to 11-1.

Layman was three-for-five from three-point range and the Terrapins were 10-for-25 overall from long range. It is the first double-double this season for Layman, who has scored in double-figures in all 12 games in the 2014-15 campaign. Freshmen Melo Trimble and Jared Nickens had 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Richaud Pack had a season-high 10 rebounds.

Le’Bryan Nash led Oklahoma State (9-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Anthony Hickey had 16 points, and Phil Forte III added 13.

Maryland opened the second half with a 15-3 run to take a 17-point lead.

Oklahoma State cut it to 10 with nine minutes left, but Layman hit a three-pointer and finished a fast break with a layup to make it 56-41 with 7:50 remaining.

The Cowboys cut it to nine on Hickey’s 3-pointer, but Layman came up big again, this time with a driving, dunk for a 62-51 advantage with 4:42 to play.

Hickey’s three-pointer made it 67-61 with 53 seconds left.

Oklahoma State has lost just five times in 198 nonconference home games dating to 1987.

“There were a lot of positives for us today. It was the first true road game, and it’s great that the fans came out. I thought it was a great environment. That’s as well as we’ve played in a long time. I think our guys rose to the occasion,” head coach Mark Turgeon said. “We were dialed in the whole game. I thought we handled the pressure pretty well. The last four minutes of the first half and the first four minutes of the second half, we were as good as we’ve played. That was really the separation in the game. I’m really proud of our young group. That was a great win for us.”
