My take—Entirely different team showed up today at Byrd. The Terps actually scored 8 goals in the first 10 minutes but 4 of them were called back due to crease violations and interference. Rambo was special day scoring 3 and assisting on 2. Dylan Maltz also chimed in with 4 points. Jon Garino was 14-8 at the X. Terps won groundballs 36-22 but still had 22 turnovers.
Sophomores Matt Rambo and Dylan Maltz combined for five goals and four assists to lead the No. 10 Maryland men’s lacrosse team to an 11-7 victory over No. 11 Penn Tuesday evening at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Leading by just one goal at halftime, 5-4, the Terrapin offense exploded in the third quarter for four unanswered goals, including three in a 2:07 span.
Maryland’s offense dominated the opening portion of the third quarter as Carlson, Rambo, Henry West and Maltz scored a string of goals to open a 9-4 lead. Rambo assisted on two of the goals, matching his career-high of two assists for the first time since achieving the feat against Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 8, 2014.
Jon Garino, Jr., had an excellent day at the faceoff X, winning 14-of-22 faceoffs.
The Terps return to action Saturday, Feb. 28, as they meets Drexel at noon for the first time in program history at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
NOTES:
– Matt Rambo tied his career-high with two assists
– Maryland remained unbeaten all-time against Penn, 11-0
– The Terps reached 10 goals for the first time in 2015, and have won 12 straight games when scoring at least 10 goals
– Maryland improved to 38-3 all-time in the month of February, and 12-1 under Tillman
– The Terps improved to 83-6-1 all-time in home-openers, including six consecutive wins
