Terps Move Closer To Clinching 2nd Place in the Big Ten with 66-56 Win over Michigan

The Terps came out flat today on Senior day according to head coach Mark Turgeon which is to expected after the emotional win Tuesday over Wisconsin. Early on Dez and Melo were not on all cylinders.

But as the 1st half continued, Melo took over culminating in a back breaking trey to give the Terps a 30-21 lead. The 2nd half was dominated by a rain of treys lead by 3 treys from Jared Nickens.

Trimble once again amazed the crowd finishing with 19 points, along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Dez finished with 13 points on 6-11 shooting.

Michigan tossed a 1-2-2 mid court rush that confused the Terps for a while. It was Evan Smotrycz who moved to a center type position and dished off 4 assists to end the threat.

The Terrapins finished 18-1 at home – the only defeat against Top 10 Virginia on Dec. 3. Maryland’s 9-0 mark at home in the Big Ten includes Tuesday’s win over fifth-ranked Wisconsin, the conference leader.

The Terps honored their seven-member senior class which included Spencer Barks, Jon Graham, Richaud Pack, Varun Ram, Evan Smotrycz, Jacob Susskind and Wells prior to tipoff.

“Obviously, it was a great day for us. To be able to play everybody and honor every senior, it was hard to do. A lot of good things happened today. A lot of the seniors played well for us. We got everybody in and we finished 9-0 in the league at home, which is hard to do,” head coach Mark Turgeon said. “Our fans would not let us lose so that is why you come to Maryland; to be a part of that. We got one chapter out of the way as we move forward through the rest of the season.”
