Turgeon’s brilliant Move Saves the Day for the Terps who advance to the Round of 32 Defeating Valpo 65-62

13.7 seconds remained with the Terps holding on to a 3 point lead and Valpo had the ball. Coach Turgeon inserted little used but defensively effective into the game to help prevent a trey. The result — Ram stripped Keith Carter of the ball and the game ended with a Maryland victory. That was the 3rd time Turgeon used this move

The Terps only took 40 shots but connected on 19 including 4 treys by Jared Nickens. Early in the game Maryland was having trouble attacking the zone but Nickens ended that problem.

Key offensive play of the game– Dez’ put back flying rebound and subsequent foul shot to complete a 3 point play late in the game.

Unsung hero of the game– Evan Smotrycz who was forced to play a point forward position and guard whichever center was in the game. Evan had 8 points and 5 rebounds in 25 solid minutes.

Melo– as usual was splendid with a double double–14 points and 10 rebounds. Oh yes 2 turnovers in 39 minutes of play.

So Sunday it will be the Terps against the helter shelter full court play of West Virginia. It should be another classic game.
