#1 Terps 16 #4 Northwestern 5—Maryland Dominates In Every Fashion

Let there be no doubt, the Terps were vastly superior tonight as was seen by the lacrosse world on the Big Ten Network. The Wildcats had no answer for Taylor Cummings (18-5) on the draws and thus Maryland easily increased its lead. Maryland is just deeper then then this team and everything Kelly Amonte Hiller tried to do was answered by Cathy Reese’s squad.

Led by a balanced attack and staunch defense, the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (10-0, 1-0 B1G) picked up a dominant 16-5 win over No. 4 Northwestern (5-3, 0-1) Thursday night in the inaugural Big Ten lacrosse game.

Six Terrapins scored multiple goals, led by five from freshman Megan Whittle. Kelly McPartland recorded a hat trick, and Brooke Griffin, Zoe Stukenberg, Taylor Cummings and Kristen Lamon each scored twice.

Goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick made seven saves and picked up a ground ball. The Terrapin defense held the Wildcats to five goals, more than five less than their season average. from umterps.com
