Five-star big man Diamond Stone has committed to the Maryland Terrapins, announcing his decision on Twitter.

Stone, a 6-foot-10 center out of Dominican High School in Milwaukee, is ranked No. 7 in the ESPN 100 for the 2015 class. He chose the Terrapins over Wisconsin, Connecticut and Oklahoma State.

Connecticut seemed to have momentum coming out of the summer, while in-state Wisconsin had the buzz in the fall. Over the past couple of months, though, Maryland made a strong push to overtake both schools.

Diamond Stone joins a talented returning group at Maryland and should produce immediately.

One factor in the Terrapins’ favor was the Under Armour connection; the shoe company sponsored Stone’s AAU team.

With Stone in the fold, Maryland will have one of the best inside tandems in the country next season. He will combine with Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter, who sat out the 2014-15 season. Potential NBA draft pick Jake Layman also returns in the frontcourt.

Bruce, I agree that this could shape up to be a formidable starting line up. How to you see the back ups lining up? Does Bender back up Carter? Does Cekovsky move to back up Layman? I guess we can assume Brantley, Wiley and Dodd round out the cast.Do you see it differently? Do you see Coach looking for other graduate transfer? If so, on what positions do you think he might be focusing?
