1st Rivalry Trophy Goes to Blue Jays as Terps are Dominated For the First Time Time This Year–Losing 15-12

It’s time to enter the no spin zone of Maryland lacrosse:

Charlie Raffa opened the game up thoroughly dominating Drew Kennedy by actually winning the first 5 face offs. But then 2 things happen. Enter Hunter Moreland (Fr from Boys Latin) and suddenly the face off battle was equalized. I admit I was shocked. Then Hopkins leveled 3 brutal hits on Raffa basically taking him out of the game. Basically the rest was history.

The Blue Jays became the first team this year to really figure out the method to attack the Terps defense—15 goals–really? Ryan Brown had 8 goals–8 I repeat.

Hopkins won the face off war 16-14–nailing 8 of 10 after Raffa was KO’ed from the game.

Hopkins won the ground ball battle 34-28 —at Maryland.

Matt Rambo scored twice early and then seemed to never touch the ball.

Joe LoCasio was stellar for the Terps scoring 3 times with 2 assists.

It’s hard to judge the performance of Tewaaraton nominee Kyle Bernlohr who had but 8 saves but so many shots were from inside of 10 feet. Hopkins goalie Eric Schneider was removed from the game in the 3rd quarter by Coach Pietramala.

I am so upset I can’t even think about how the Terrapin naysayers will treat this loss. I am trying not to overreact.

#1 Notre Dame got humbled by Duke, #2 Carolina lost to Cuse and co #2 or #5 according to Quint, Maryland lost to its arch rival. Give Hopkins its due, For the 2nd time in 3 years they came to College Park and walked away with victory.

However, Maryland could get a chance at quick revenge with a possible return event with the Blue Jays next week. Anything past the Big Ten Championship is out of my thoughts right now. Maryland needs to rise up and right the wrong of a rainy Saturday night.

By the way Maryland shared the Big Ten Regular Season title with Johns Hopkins.

Also, what a tribute to this game as 9400 sat through a cold night that was made worse by intermittent deluges of rain.
