Edsall Wins Commitment to Academic Excellence Award

The University of Maryland Terrapin Scholarship Fund Board of Directors named head coach Randy Edsall the winner of the inaugural Commitment to Academic Excellence Award, which will be given annually to a coach, coaching staff or team that exemplifies the highest level of commitment to student athlete academic performance.

“Coach Randy Edsall has made a significant commitment to improving the academic performance of student athlete members of the football program,” Steve Leonard, President of the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund Board of Directors said. “Serving as the academic liaison for the football program is unprecedented in Division I football and shows the effort Coach Edsall is willing to go to achieve championships in the classroom.”

Since coming to the University of Maryland in 2011, Edsall has placed a great emphasis on academic performance, leading the football program to all-time highs in Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).

104 –football student-athletes have graduated (104 out of 105 who had exhausted eligibility: 99.04%)
16 – football student-athletes graduated following the fall 2014 academic semester
9 – completed their degree in 3.5 years and 1– graduated with a Master’s Degree
40 –football student-athletes have earned Dean’s List Honors
8 – football student-athletes earned Dean’s List following the fall 2014 academic semester
35 – football student-athletes have earned Academic All-Conference Honors
21 – football student-athletes earned All-Big Ten Honors following the fall 2014 academic semester
Fall 2014 team semester and team cumulative GPAs are the highest on record
The Academic Progress Rate (APR) has shown significant growth:
The multi-year score is currently .950 and the highest since 2003-04
The single-year score is currently .977 and the highest since the inception of the APR measure
The Graduation Success Rate (GSR) also continues to grow with the current 2014 score of 74% which is the highest in program history
