Steve Blake traded to the Nets

The Rondae Hollis-Jefferson era in Portland is over before it even started.

The Trail Blazers traded Jefferson, the No. 23 pick in the 2015 NBA draft, and veteran point guard Steve Blake to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for center Mason Plumlee and rookie guard Pat Connaughton, the No. 41 pick in the draft.

Connaughton, a 6-foot-5 guard, averaged 10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in four years at Notre Dame. He was also a standout pitcher on Notre Dame’s baseball team and was taken 121st overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2014 MLB draft.

Blake, 34, signed a two-year free agent contract worth $4.2 million last summer. Last week, Blake exercised a $2.17 million player option in his contract for the 2015-16 season. The 12-year veteran played in 81 games last season, averaging 4.3 points, 3.6 assists and 18.9 minutes per game as Damian Lillard’s primary backup. This is the third time Blake has been traded by the Blazers.
