#9 Field Hockey Squad Dominates Michigan State 5-1

Four Terrapins scored as the ninth-ranked Maryland field hockey team beat Michigan State, 5-1, Sunday for the Terps’ sixth straight win. The Terrapins (8-3, 3-0 Big Ten) got off to a hot start, scoring all give goals in the first half.

Fifth-year senior Welma Luus picked up where she left off after her two-goal outing in Friday’s win over No. 18 Michigan. She tapped in a shot from the right post just 1:25 into the game to give Maryland the early lead.

Nine minutes into the match, freshman Linnea Gonzales scored her first of the day when she slammed in a shot off a penalty corner. Redshirt junior Emma Rissinger and senior Anna Dessoye assisted on the play.

Sophomore Carrie Hanks made it a three-goal lead for Maryland when she scored her second of the year off a penalty corner with 20 minutes left in the half. Dessoye and junior Floor Paanakker assisted on the play. Just over a minute later, Gonzales scored from the top left side of the circle for a 4-0 lead.

Redshirt sophomore Brooke Adler notched her first goal of the year when she tapped one in off a rebound on a penalty corner seven minutes before halftime. The Terrapins would take a 5-0 lead into the break.
