It Certainly Appears Randy’s Days are Numbered as Head Coach–My Thoughts

Sometime during the West Virginia I began to get the feeling that Randy’s job could be in jeopardy.  At any level of football, you have to have an adequate QB in order to have a chance to win. That just was not in the cards this year. The position has been a disaster and it has nothing to do with injuries.

I can not understand why the possible impending doom was released before the Ohio State game. It makes no sense to me.

In no way shape or form am I happy about what happened today. Randy has been a good friend to me and my shows. All I have ever wanted him to do is succeed.  But like any other college coach, one is judged on the wins and losses. It appears that 6 wins and a bowl continues to be the minimum standard of performance and that goal seemed out of reach. It’s funny that the boosters I spoke with today certainly knew Randy was in trouble, but none were aware of the potential immediate gravity of the situation. Let all Maryland fans appreciate the vast improvement in the academic performance and overall character of the program.

If the supposed  event happens, let the search begin for the best, most high profile coach in the land. Just about every other program at Maryland is at or near the peak of success. We need the football team to be at the same top level.

from the get go edsall has been a lousy coach and and a classless coach constantly throwing players under the bus in the media. you can’t expect to keep your job when your team is embarrassed week after week and your team is constantly out coached.

i wouldn’t feel badly for randy as his take from md over his tenure will be close to 13 million dollars with a final record of 22-34 with 17 losses by 20 points or more. (if md loses sat by 20 or more which is sadly expected). an awful lot of money for an awful job done by edsall.

    Mr. Viener.

I have been a fan of Maryland Football for three years now, and I am a fan of Randy Edsall. I happen to like his coaching style and the way he mentors the young men on the team. I hope A.D. Anderson dont fire coach Edsall. I believe coach Edsall will turn these around next season.

I’m 100 percent with you on this Freddy. The 4 years plus 4 games of Maryland football’s on field performance in the Randy Edsall era has been disastrous at worst and mediocre at best. Not only is Maryland’s record against ranked teams 0-11 in his tenure but Maryland has, I believe only 2 wins against teams that finished the season with a winning record.

And regardless of Mr. Freeman’s comment, the prime job of a Division 1 NCAA football coach is to put a winning team on the field. The other elements are, frankly, ancillary and the two are not mutually exclusive.

john i think boomer would be a good guy for a kid to spend a month in the summer with working on qb skills. zero chance of boomer being head coach. he makes big money on tv for the nfl shows, good money from doing radio , is firmly entrenched living in ny has no coaching experience.

Hey Freddy, yeah kinda was thinking all that as well, very cush lifestyle. I admit, it’s a dream…maybe he can take up the challenge and do something nice for his school who desperately needs him right now just like how Michigan needed their own. Not sure how much he’s making now doing shows but imagine it won’t be that big of a drop off.

Yeah I understand the whole no coaching experience thing. But what did coaching exp do for Edsel and vast majority of coaches in d1 now. I know it will be a gamble, but him being a terp I doubt he will poopoo on the gig like ends all has. I am willing to take that gamble and at least get some buzz going. Ok ok and in college I know it’s all about recruiting, but hopefully with his name, fire, and history he can keep bulk of local talents home . Just get great recruiters to recruit but please don’t have them coach if they have no business coaching, ie you know who ?.

If not boomer I’ll give you another name, Tim tebow. He’ll motivate the team and bring that X factor. I know he still has nfl dreams. And who better to know urban Meyers weakness ?
