Just Win Baby!!!!–Diamond and Melo Carry Terps to 20th Victory–70-65 over Nebraska

Freshman Diamond Stone had 16 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high eight blocks, and No. 4 Maryland held off Nebraska 70-65 on Wednesday night.

Melo Trimble had 14 of his 20 points in the second half as the Terrapins overcame a slew of turnovers to remain a half-game behind conference co-leaders Indiana and Iowa. Trimble now has eight games with 20 or more points this season.

Stone dunked off an assist from Trimble to give the Terps (20-3, 9-2 Big Ten) the lead for good, 60-58, and he dunked again after rebounding Jake Layman‘s missed free throw to make it 66-61 with 2 minutes to play.

The Huskers were within three points when Trimble put the game away with two free throws with 8.2 seconds left.

Andrew White III had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Nebraska (12-11, 4-6). Shavon Shields was just 4 of 17 from the field and finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Maryland committed 18 turnovers, its most in a conference game this season, but the Huskers converted them into only nine points. Nebraska was unable to overcome its season-worst 31.8-percent shooting.

The Terps blocked a season-high 13 shots.

Observations

I watched the 1st half on my iphone—ridiculous with all of the stations BTN has

Somehow Melo pulled this game out—again

Diamond was special–16 pts, 10rebounds and 8 Blocked shots

Great to see Nickens regain his shooting touch–11 points including 3 treys

Terps shoot 51%–Nebraska 31% —yet barely win  Why 18 turnovers, 9 missed foul shots

Melo got decked by a blind pick at the end of the game

ANOTHER SLOW START

20-3. pretty good and not playing to their potential or even close to it.

nice to see melo shoot the ball better last night. but he’s handling the ball poorly.

stone had a nice game. used his size well. made a left handed nice pass from up top to the post. can’t figure out why when the ball goes down low to him they don’t run plays utilizing his passing skills. most times he gets the ball and the other 4 on the court just stand flat footed watching. is that what they coached to do?

layman shoot badly, again, but gets some boards and plays hard.

sulaimon made some shots and they were needed and welcome back nickens for a much needed 11 points.

again dodd does a lot of good things on the floor last night. doesn’t fill up the stats sheet but is productive.

carter had 5 assists but 4 turnovers and zero baskets.

ram hustles, plays hard and should be at a d 3 school not on the floor for the terps. he barely grazed the rim on his free throws.

nebraska isn’t a good team and even playing in lincoln the game should never have been that close.

once in a while last night they went inside out and had some success but they play that way too infrequently. you didn’t see good ball movement, quick passes and the extra pass. why is that?

they play very well when the push the ball but a lot of times just walk it up the floor. why is that?

the potential is there to make a big run but in my opinion they need to play a better brand of basketball to get there. the talent is there. will the coaching get the most out of the talent?

Come on, Freddy. Nebraska might not be a great team but they are perfectly capable of playing well. Need I point out (or remind you of) these two final scores:

January 20 in East Lansing: Nebraska 72 – Michigan St. 71
January 23 in East Lansing: Maryland 65 – Michigan St. 74

Also, Maryland was playing their third game in six days, two on the road and the home game against one of the two hottest and best teams in the conference.

Road games are tough. Conference road games even more so. This is a tier A win per KenPom.

todd….. pistols..8am….have your second call my second. if my second isn’t there go directly to my third guy.

bottom line..md had much better talent, they were much bigger and played a very sloppy game. to many unforced errors.

Can I just pass third, get to home and collect $200?
