#5 Terps Journey to #7 Louisville and Defeat Cardinals 78-72

Senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough posted 26 points to lead the fifth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team (7-0) past No. 7 Louisville (6-2), 78-72, in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Thursday evening.

Senior Brionna Jones notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds while freshman Destiny Slocum added 13 points.

Maryland shot 23-of-28 (82 percent) from the charity stripe and finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field.

Louisville used a 7-0 run to take an 18-9 lead to start the game, finishing the first quarter with a 24-20 advantage. The Terrapins battled back with a 10-2 run in the second quarter to take a 30-26 lead. Walker-Kimbrough scored 16 points in the first half as Maryland led 42-38 at halftime.

The Terps continued to roll in the third quarter as freshman Kaila Charles scored six points. Junior Kristen Confroy knocked down three straight free throws at the end of the period as Maryland led 62-53.

The Cardinals started the final quarter on a run, tying the Terps at 62-62. A layup from Charles and an and-1 play from Slocum gave Maryland a 72-67 advantage. Slocum hit four more free throws and Walker-Kimbrough added two as the Terps finished with a 78-72 victory.
