Tough Day for Terps v BC in Quick Lane Bowl

Detroit, MI 12/26/2016

Maryland falls to BC 36-30 at Ford Field in the Quick Lane Bowl. Although the score was close at the end, it felt like the Terps were going uphill all game. Today marks the end of the Terp road for Perry Hills, Wes Brown, Caleb Rowe, Michael Dunn, Levern Jacobs, Teldrick Morgan, Roman Braglio and Azubuike Ukandu among others.

The end sequence of the game seemingly took forever. Maryland was parked within 10 yards of the BC end zone for over 25 real minutes. From 1st and goal at the one, to being 30 yards away and then back inside the five, the Terps could not cross the goal line.

Out of the back and forth scrum, Maryland came away with an Adam Greene field goal. But the Terps had their chances. As the chances were squandered, the game clock wound down.

The competitive portion of the game ended when Hills was sacked for the 8th and final time on 4th down around his own 30 yard line.

Maryland early had no answers for the BC offense. The Eagles came into the game ranked 127th with only Rutgers besting them in offensive futility. But you would not have know that as BC raced out to an early lead punctuated by a reverse that ended with the QB catching a pass for a touchdown from a wideout.

Maryland trailed at the end of the first half in equal measures defensive let downs, offensive passing inaccuracies, BC’s defensive front and penalties.

The start of the 2nd half was no better as Maryland’s offense got blown up in the backfield on a hand-off between Perry Hills and Ty Johnson. BC recovered the forced fumble in the end zone and it was suddenly 36-13 BC.

The comeback started from there. Two long passes for touchdowns fit nicely with the Ty Johnson quick attack. Maryland’s defense stood taller and the Terps whittled away at the lead.

The Greene field goal and the stalling BC offense gave the Terps the ball one more time, but it was not enough as the Terps could not advance the ball and Hills was sacked.
