Nickens, Dodd Lead Terps to Impressive 77-70 Road Win Over Michigan

Almost every Terps fan has been on Nickens case about his poor shooting this year, myself included. But the “Running Man” just came out of his slump today, coming off the bench to go 4-4 on treys to help carry the Terps to victory.

Damonte Dodd and Justin Jackson each scored 15 on a combined 12-18 FG%.

Maryland arrived ready to play today and with the exception of a 5 minute lull at the start of the 2nd half, really ran the offense well. The Terps move to 14-2 and 2-1 in the Big 10.

Justin Jackson and Damonte Dodd each scored 15 points, and Maryland’s freshmen kept their poise in the second half, holding off Michigan for a 77-70 victory Saturday.

The Terrapins (14-2, 2-1 Big Ten) led by 11 in the first half, but Michigan (11-5, 1-2) had the deficit down to one early in the second. Every time the Wolverines were on the verge of moving ahead, however, Maryland had an answer. The Terps went 10 of 15 from 3-point range and are now 15-1 in games following a loss since January, 2015.

It was 71-68 when Jackson fought his way inside for a basket with 48 seconds left. Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr. drove for a layup — capping a streak of eight straight made field goals by the Wolverines — but Anthony Cowan calmly made two free throws at the other end, and Maryland held on.

With three freshman starters — Jackson, Cowan and Kevin Huerter — the Terrapins executed impressively throughout the second half. They made their final five shots from the field while Michigan was trying to rally.

Great to see Nickens make some shots. His issue all season(and last) has been confidence which was not helped by being booed at home by some idiot fans. Hopefully this will snap him out of. This team is tough to beat when they make 3’s and have a full contingent of healthy low post players.
