Attackers Caroline Wannen and Megan Whittle each recorded six points as the second-ranked Maryland women’s lacrosse team (2-0) defeated Georgetown (1-2) 17-13 Saturday afternoon.

“We came in today with a really great energy,” head coach Cathy Reese said. “We started the game off strong, and then we had a lapse at the end of the first half. Our offense was working well in the second half, so overall I’m really proud of my team’s effort on this beautiful day.”

Wannen scored four goals and added a pair of assists while Whittle notched five goals and one assist. Midfielder Zoe Stukenberg posted three points (2G, 1) while attacker Taylor Hensh scored twice. Midfielder Jen Giles, attacker Caroline Steele, midfielder Kali Hartshorn and midfielder Hannah Warther all added one goal.

The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, goalie Megan Taylor had another standout game. She made 10 saves while allowing eight goals. Through two games, Taylor holds a 5.98 goals against average and a .621 save percentage.
