Beware of May 10–The Unthinkable Happens Again—Caps Fall to Penquins 2-0

Thank heavens the Maryland Lacrosse teams didn’t play Wednesday night.

First, I really can’t say the Caps fell apart. They peppered Marc-Allen Fleury continuously but could not dent the nets. What will the future of this team be? Top line right wing T.J. Oshie — who tied Ovechkin for the team lead in goals this season — and another couple of forwards, Justin Williams and Daniel Winnik, along with defensemen Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk are unrestricted free agents. Evgeny Kuznetsov, Andre Burakovsky and Dmitry Orlov are restricted free agents.

Second, the Wizards got blown out by Boston in game 5 and now trail 3-2. This was never a game from the start. Friday is game 6 at Verizon, the Wiz will bounce back with a W.

Finally, the O’s now have a serious closer problem. Once again Brach failed in the closers role allowing 3 runs in the 9th and the way he was pitching it was only mercy of the bottom of the 9th that saved him from allowing 7. HE IS NOT A CLOSER. Darren O’Day has been struggling. Britton is out for 45-60 days. The sky is not falling, yet.

In summary: I watched my last hockey game of the season. I can’t bear to watch the Penquins raise the Cup that should have belonged to the Caps.

The Wiz appear to be in deep trouble if it goes to game 7.

At least DC got 1 win last night, but it was only like having one horse in the trifecta. Tough night for our neighbors.
