It’s 9 Terps Selected to All America Squads

COLLEGE PARK – The Maryland men’s lacrosse team is well represented on the 2017 Nike/USILA All-America Teams, with nine student-athletes earning All-America honors. It is the most All-Americans in a single-season for the Terps since 1998, and the most among all schools nationally in 2017.
Maryland features four First Team All-America selections: senior short stick midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen, junior midfielder Connor Kelly, senior defenseman Tim Muller and senior attackman Matt Rambo. It is just the third time in the NCAA-era the Terps have had four first team selections (2014, 1973).
Davis-Allen is the first two-time First Team All-America selection at Maryland since Bill McGlone (2005, 2006).
Selected Third Team All-America was senior attackman Colin Heacock and junior midfielder Tim Rotanz, while the Honorable Mention team included freshman midfielder Jared Bernhardt, junior long pole Matt Neufeldt and junior defender Bryce Young.
Bernhardt is the first freshman to earn All-America honors at Maryland since defender Goran Murray (2012).
Davis-Allen is the only first team short stick midfielder in the country for the second consecutive season. A two-time captain, Davis-Allen has picked up 37 ground balls and totaled four points. He is also a Senior CLASS Award finalist.
Kelly followed up a breakout sophomore season with a phenomenal junior season in 2017, totaling 42 goals and 11 assists so far. He is the first Maryland midfielder to reach 40 goals in a season since Frank Urso in 1974. He was named the MVP of the Big Ten Tournament.
Largely recognized as one of the best defenders in the country, Muller was rewarded with his second career All-America nod. He has totaled 31 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers, in addition to scoring a career-high four goals this year.
A 2017 Tewaaraton finalist, Rambo has completely shattered the Maryland record books during his illustrious career. The program’s all-time leader in points, he needs just one more goal to become the program’s leader in goals. He has totaled 83 points in 2017 – second-best in Maryland single-season history – and recently became the first player to total 40 goals and 40 assists in a season at Maryland.
Heacock earned his second career All-America nod, as well, posting 43 points during the 2017 campaign. He currently ranks 28th in Maryland history with 127 career points.
Rotanz has had a standout season in the midfield for the Terps, posting 40 points on 29 goals and 11 assists so far. The junior is shooting at a 39 percent clip on the season, while pouring in a career-high five goals in the NCAA first round against Bryant.
One of the top-rated recruits out of high school, Bernhardt seamlessly transitioned into the college game on Maryland’s first midfield line. The rookie has totaled 27 points, including 20 goals, which are the most for a Maryland freshman since Matt Rambo in 2014. His eight-game point streak to open his career was the longest at Maryland since Joe Walters (2003).
In his first full season back since missing 2016 due to injury, Neufeldt leads the Terps in both ground balls (60) and caused turnovers (20). He has been a key component as a wing on faceoffs, in addition to adding three goals and two assists.
Young has been outstanding in his first full season as a starter at close defense, totaling 35 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers. He has also been a threat in transition, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He has scored two goals over his last three games – all in postseason play.
