Boys Latin Attackman Logan Wisnauskas Thrilled to Be Coming Home to the Terps—From Tom Peace

When Logan Wisnauskas called and told his parents that he wanted to transfer home and go to school in his home state, they were shocked at first.

But the Wisnauskas’s knew that Logan was making the best decision for himself.

Wisnauskas is transferring to the University of Maryland after spending his freshman year at Syracuse University.

The 6’3 185lb attackman will be able to play this upcoming season for the Terps.

The recruiting process isn’t pretty and it can be overwhelming for a lot of kids. Even players such as Wisnauskas who came from a top high school lacrosse program and he was an Under Armour All-American this time last year.

Logan said he felt the pressure during the recruiting experience to commit ASAP. And so he thought being an Orangemen was a good fit.

“Looking back on it I should have let the process work itself out and things would’ve been just fine.”

But this isn’t an indictment on Logan for making a bad decision. We all make mistakes and he had to experience being in upstate New York for a whole year to realize it wasn’t for him.

Cases such as Logan’s are the reason why the IWLCA/IMLCA worked with the NCAA to pass the new recruiting regulations this past spring to slow early recruiting.

The new rule now states college coaches can’t have contact with a student athlete until the September of their junior year.

Several of the Wisnauskas’ high school teammates from Boys’ Latin (MD) made the decision to go to college close to home as well. Patrick Spencer is a star junior attackman at Loyola University, Shack Stanwick has been a force at Johns Hopkins and just this past season senior Colin Heacock helped lead the Terps to their first Championship in decades.

“It’s an awesome sight to see,” said Wisnauskas about his fellow Laker teammates excelling here locally. “I am honored to have gotten to know those guys over the years. It’s cool to see them carrying on what they did at BL into college.”

The stud attackman enters the Terps offense at a perfect time. With Heacock and 2017 Tewaarton Trophy winner Matt Rambo graduating, this creates an opening at attack for Wisnauskas.

The Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Year in 2016, says he is ready to get to work and come into College Park with a positive attitude. “(Maryland) is a awesome business school. I did exceptionally well in the classroom at Syracuse and feel as if I have a great chance to get into the business school at Maryland this coming spring. Also, the lacrosse. How could you not want to play for your home states school?
