Terps in the NBA preseason

A post by Jordan

The NBA preseason took off a few days ago, there were 4 Terps and a bonus in the league to watch for:

Melo Trimble- The Minnesota Timberwolves signed  Melo to a partially guaranteed NBA rookie minimum deal (details here) over the summer. The Timberwolves debuted vs the Lakers on September 30th, however Melo did not, he and 5 other fringe players did not play on Saturday. Melo might get a chance to play later in the preseason once the T-Wolves figure out the rotation more, but it’s highly unlikely he will make the opening day roster. Expect to catch Melo in the D-League or to be stashed (the team and player agree to have him play overseas for a year).

Next Game: @ Golden State Warriors 10/5 2am NBA TV

Jake Layman- Jake and the Trail Blazers kick off tonight vs. the Suns. Expect Jake to play a few minutes while he battles Notre Dame product Pat Connaughton for the last wing spot in the Blazers rotation.

Next Game : Vs. Phoenix Suns 10/3 10pm NBA TV

Alex Len- At this point Alex Len has the unfortunate label of draft disappointment. He enters his 5th season in league having signed a 1yr/4.2 million offer with the Suns after a summer of trying to negotiate a better contract. Expect to see Alex for 10-20 minutes tonight while the Suns travel to play Jake Layman and the Blazers.

Next Game : @ Portland Trail Blazers 10/3 10pm NBA TV

Diamond Stone- Diamond Stone has a rocky (haha) start to his NBA career. After being drafted by the Clippers he rarely saw the floor and was traded to the Hawks as filler. Less than a week after the trade Diamond was waived and waited a whole month and a half before being signed by the Bulls September 14th. In all likelihood Diamond will be playing for a D-League spot in the preseason.

Next Game: @ New Orleans Pelicans 10/3 8pm NBA TV

BONUS:

The Portland Trail Blazers coaching intern Steve Blake!!!!

Steve Blake joined the Blazers staff as an intern to see if coaching was a field that he wanted to get into. He has had a documented friendship with Blazers franchise player Damian Lillard as well as having played for Head Coach Terry Stotts.
