For you regular Terp Talk and Sports Maven listeners I ranted and raved about the need to draft Stefon Diggs from the day he entered the NFL Draft to as recently as this year. Can you imagine that this tremendous talent was in our own backyard and the Ravens chose to select CB Tray Walker from Texas Southern in the 4th round on the 136th pick and neglect the presence of the Terps Stefon Diggs. Stefon played for really marginal QBs at Maryland. Yet his numbers and abilities were prolific. I can’t remember when he ever dropped a pass. He made incredible plays and whatever wins the Terps pieced together usually involve acrobatic catches, kickoff returns and the best hands of any receiver that has played at Maryland. I can’t forget that the Ravens 1st pick that year (2015) was Brashad Perriman whose reputation for dropped balls has plagued him at Baltimore.
Forward to Sunday in Minnesota. Diggs’ 61 yard TD catch to end the game will live in Viking and NFL lore forever. For that and as a member of Terrapin nation I am ecstatic.
Congrats to Torrey for a great game for the Eagles as well. That’s right Torrey was overlooked by the Ravens last year. Think he might have helped Joe a little. In his final year as a Raven, Torrey created many pass interference calls on Flacco’s underthrows. He did so again on Sunday.
DJ Moore is in the draft this year. With a 3rd string and sometimes a 4th string QB throwing to him, DJ made seemingly impossible catches game after game. Finally, he was double teamed, which opened up single coverage on other Terps receivers. In 2017, in only 9 games played DJ had 59 receptions, for 820 yds, 8 TDs, and 12 —20+ yds catches.
