Tariq Owens commits to Texas Tech instead of Terps
Maryland pursued and lost this local big man. Not a great spot to be in for the Terps who need a shot blocker.
Tariq wanted a place where he would start, and apparently Chris Beard at Texas Tech will give him that slot.
Owens, a 6-11 post player, averaged 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 blocks a game with the Red Storm this season.
He started his college career with Tennessee before transferring to St. John’s, getting his first taste of action with the Red Storm in the 2016-17 season.
Maryland is a bit unsettled at center this upcoming season, as Bruno Fernando will test the draft waters this spring.
