On the Washington Capitals

By Wayne Viener –

The celebration is probably still going on somewhere near Chinatown in DC.  The Caps win the Cup and the party has been wild.  Many more Caps fans showed up than I thought existed.

As part of a crowd of 500,000+ all I can say is “Wow”, what a turnout.

We went as fans this time, there is 30 seconds of video and crowd shots that were posted, Mason, Jordan, Connie and I just wanted to be a part of it on Tuesday.  We were 12 deep along the parade route and walked around the giant crowd at the stage, starting from the Art Museum and circling across the mall towards Air and Space.  Then up Independence Ave. towards the Monument.

We cut into the crowd at the Castle and watched the throngs cheer and wave from the shade.  The video boards and sound system were great.  The festiveness of fans was over the top.

An unforgettable sea of red swarmed, cheered and recounted the memories of where they were when all the bad things happened and then where they were when the Capitals finally reached the mountaintop.  It was the friendliest of gatherings I have ever been a part of in DC.

As we got off the Metro in Rockville, still wearing our Caps jerseys and Rocking the Red, we began the walk back to the office, a large truck passed by pumping the horn – “Horn, Horn, Horn”, we responded in kind, “Lets Go Caps!”
