Terps Play Big Time Football But Fail to Close The Deal— Losing to Ohio State 52-51

It wasn’t just a trip to the Quick Lane Bowl or Pinstripe Bowl that was on the line today–it was the pride in Being a Terrapin Football player, it was the quest to play a top ten in a meaningful way.

Much was accomplished on Saturday, though as usual at the end of the day the hearts of Terrapin nation were broken.

I went to a party last last night and I heard was praise of the magnificent effort put forth by the Terps against the “evil one himself” Urban Meyer.

Since joining the Big Ten the Terps have defeated every team in the Eastern Division except Ohio State. That was the key point of the today.

So I am not going to rehash many mistakes that were made in clock management, poor play calling and whatever else the naysayers can pick on.

But rather celebrate the glorious play of our much maligned offense. Though Pigrome was off target on the final 2 point try, he was dead on target with at least 4 20 yard plus plays. He managed the game well and made most fans wonder if maybe he should have been QB1.

Anthony MacFarland rushed for 304 yards (just 2 short of Lamont Jordan’s all time record of 306) on only 21 carries –an average of 14.2 yards per carry. Enough said.

The depth of the Terps running game can match any team in the nation. The offensive line was stellar

The successful fake punt was brilliant, and no one could question going for 2 to win the game.

Hats off to Head Coach Canada for tremendous preparation of the offense.

For this particular day, Maryland played like an elite team of the NCAA. You might not hear that from the national sports media but your eyes did not deceive you.

Next Saturday 3:30 at Penn State. I’ve got a feeling. Do you?
