I just can’t believe that Lee Westwood failed again. This one had to hurt the most –a 3 shot lead down the drain. But as is happening much more these days, protecting a lead in golf just doesn’t always get the job done. Lefty was miraculous playing what he said was his greatest round of golf ever. He dared to win and tossed away the safety theory of play. Today with his victory at Muirfield, he stands alone at the top of the golf world. But as we have seen, it won’t be for long. As for Tiger, he just hasn’t been able to close the deal. Look, he is still one of the top golfers in the world and just like his competition, one major he will put together a super final round to win it all, but it’s now been over 5 years—-hard to believe.

My Top 4 predictions–as heard on Terp talk Thursday night:
Brandt Snedeker Dustin Johnson Francesco Molinari Angel Cabrera
It just seems like the days of a multiple Major winner is on hold.
Tiger had an incredible bogey on the 1st hole this morning. It could be an omen for him as he rallied to finish at 2 under–3 shots off the lead.
19 year old Jordan Spieth continues his hot streal finishing at -2.
Wo was I wron about Rory. His game is in disarray as he finished at +8 for the day.
All weekend all the commentators talked about was what an advantage it was for Adam Scott to have Stevie on his bag. You could have fooled me. After Adam Scott birdied the 14th hole, Stevie Williams and Scott started the victory celebration. What followed the next 4 holes was a collapse of epic proportions. 4 bogeys in 4 holes. Bye Bye Major. A collapse the Aussie might never recover from. Tiger’s triple bogey will be the hole remembered that did him in. But perhaps his incredible conservative play on Day 3 put him in the untenable position of making 1 mistake and being out. I am sure that as Tiger’s triple was reported throughout the millions of golfers teeing it up Sunday morning in the US, the groans and headshakes were as evident as could be. 3 over par on Sunday for Tiger?
Without exaggerating Tiger missed 9 birdie putts.

Yes, I was rooting for any American to win but you have to feel great for the 42 year old Clakre who has never won a major. He’s a great guy who seemed as loose as he could be. Does anyone miss as many short putts in the Majors as Phil?
