Bunny Wilson—Down Memory Lane With Paul Baker

Last night as Maryland was up by 50 over Longwood , I was passing the time chatting with local legendary Basketball guru, Paul Baker. Over his illustrious career PB has Coached in College, High school, been a NBA scout, written a great book about his journeys and on and on. But his most everlasting memories were the times he spent with Isaiah “Bunny ” Wilson at the University of Baltimore in the mid sixties. UB used to play their games at the Rogers Avenue Gym–capacity 125. Bunny Wilson arrived on the scene from Philadelphia and according to Paul selected U of B because one of his close friends was on the team. This was a real coup for Paul Baker getting Bunny from the 5 schools that were centered in the Palestra. For 3 years at UB Bunny averaged 29 points a game, three times scoring in the fifties. In his last year at U of B , Bunny led his team to a 19-7 record including upsets over GW and Old Dominion. I never forget my brother dragging me up to the Rogers Ave gym to watch Bunny. His jump shot was as smooth as silk. Bunny hung on in the NBA for 2 years never making his mark but proving he belonged. Paul Baker stays in touch with Bunny Wilson a father of 3 and successful businessman.
