Bruce Campbell (Oakland), Nolan Carroll (Miami) Drafted —4 Terps Sign Free Agent Contracts

Former Terrapins Bruce Campbell and Nolan Carroll were selected during Saturday’s NFL Draft and four of their teammates will try and join them on rosters next season.

Offensive lineman Phil Costa (Dallas Cowboys), defensive lineman Travis Ivey (Miami Dolphins), running back Cory Jackson (San Diego Chargers) and defensive back Terrell Skinner (Minnesota Vikings) each signed free agent deals with NFL teams, according to the players. A two-time Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer, Costa played in 40 career games, starting 30, including all 12 last season at center. Ivey (pictured above), who played in the 2010 Texas vs. the Nation all-star game, served as a formidable run-stopper from his tackle position. Terps Face Boston College on Senior Day at Byrd

Why does it seem to be an important game? Because we always want the Seniors to go out on a high note—especially this year. Here’s hoping Chris Turner gets some relevant pt today. This kid has poured his heart out for the Terps. The game is on real TV on ESPNU at 3:30.

Saturday will serve as the final home game for 14 Maryland seniors: DB Nolan Carroll, OL Phil Costa, DL Deege Galt, TETommy Galt, DL Jared Harrell, DL Travis Ivey, RB Cory Jackson, PK David May, DB Jamari McCollough, DB Terrell Skinner, LB Hakeem Sule, DB Richard Taylor, QB Chris Turner and DB Anthony Wiseman. The group has combined to play 191 games with 11 of the seniors having started during their careers.

Observation of another Ravens last second loss:

Ex-Terrapin Jared Gaither dominated All Pro Dwight Freeney —limiting him to 0 sacks.

Harbaugh’s using up 2 timeouts for a challenge possibly cost us the game.

Why did’t Flacco QB sneak again when the ball was on the 1/2 inch line.

Pull out the films from games 1,2 3 . Why is it now our entire offense revolves around just 2 players #27 and #85.

Today was the day we finally got burned by Ed Reed’s lateral.

5-6 FGs –not too shabby for the new kicker!

How ironic is it that Matt Stover kicked the winning FG for the Colts.

Peyton was not his usual sharp self today missing on several errant passes.

I guess I can find something very positive out of this game. Jamarr Robinson was impressive for a guy starting his first game. Watching Georgia Tech and the triple option roll over the ACC, I am left to ponder a triple option offense with Jamarr, Da’Rel, Caleb, Davin, etc. Some observations of a long day at Byrd.

Perhaps the one sidedness of the victory made it seem like there were tons of Hokies at Byrd today.

Remember this was Jamarr’s first start today. Ralph stated in the post game game press conference that Jamarr needs to spot his open receivers quicker and be able to go 2nd and 3rd options.

What an incredible day of sports at College park today, that ends tomorrow with 2 games with huge NCAA implications.

When the score was 7-0, Jamarr threw a 40 yard pass to Torrey that just went of his fingertips. Again Torrey Smith has his QB’s back , praising his efforts despite the rout.

There is just not much to say today!!!

Chris Turner Doubtful For Va Tech, Jamarr Robinson to Start

This is the chance Jamarr has been waiting for. The offense should be very interesting with Robinson and speedster Caleb Porzel in the backfield. On the subject of burning the redshirt of QB Danny O”Brien Ralph said he wouldn’t anticipate playing freshman Danny O’Brien but wouldn’t rule it out if playing O’Brien were necessary to win. Nc State 38 Maryland 31–Chris Turner Hurt–Torrey Goes for 262 All Purpose Yards

Some observations of the Terps loss to Nc State.

Chris Turner was having a good day before being injured. He was 12-15 for 135 yards. There has been no update on his availability for the rest of the year.

Considering Jamarr Robinson has virtuall never played before , I thought he turned in a preetg performance. Certainly he is a better option if there are so many QB running plays in the game plan.Jamarr is very mobile and ran for over 50 yards today.

Caleb Porzel was ablee to turn the corner 1 time today for 20 yards but the play was never repeated.

Alex Wujciak is doing himself a lot of good if he wants to play on the next level. Alex had a 70 yard pick for a TD as well as 7 tackles.

I am getting sick and tired of ESPN 360′s coverage of the game. On my screen Wujciak stopped at the 15 yard line on his TD jaunt.

Torrey Sith–82 yard TD on kickoff return, 8 catches for 62 yards, and 262 all purpose yards–What a day!!!

No quarterback could have been successful with the incredible amount of pressure that NC Sate provided on the right side.

Look For Terps To Open Up The Offense Against NC State

The Terrapins will unleash all of its weapons today on the road. The game is on ESPN 360 and will be replayed on Comcast tomorrow night at 7:30. Perhaps today we might see Jamarr Robinson at QB for several series.

Terps Now 2-6 After Loss to Blue Devils 17-13

There is very little to say after today’s loss, in which a disappointing season keeps getting worse.Some observations of another tough conference game.

I listened to 90% of the game and enjoyed it much more then watching on a stuttering 360. I just finished watching the replay on 360 but it should be noted that Comcast will replay the game at 7:30 tomorrow night.

Caleb Porzel had some good moments though his stats tell a different story.

Just like last year, all of a sudden we can’t get the ball into the hands of our playmaker, Torrey Smith.

Several times on third and long we put the ball into the running Chris Turner. I don’t get that.

Maryland’s Ben Pooler, subbing for an injured Demetrius Hartsfield, had a game- and career-high 13 tackles, including one sack. Alex Wujciak had 11 stops and Cameron Chism intercepted Lewis and had 10 tackles.

QB for Duke, Thaddeus lewis was able to move the ball the air easily against the Terps, even in torrential rains. He threw for 371 yards.

At some point, Ralph must play Jamarr Robinson so the staff can see how he has progressed. This year is virtually done–there will be at leats 7 losses and thus no bowl.

The Terps have the week off and then will play what is probably the easiest game left this season at NC State.

I still can’t believe we lost to Duke in football.

Ralph Backs Off Criticism of Turner

On Sunday night, Coach Friedgen insinuated that we would see much more of JaMarr Robinson and Danny O’Brien. Well at his press conference yesterday, Coach retreated from his criticism of Harpo. “I think Chris misconstrued some of things I said on Sunday night….I don’t know if that’s the case. And I am going to sit down and talk with him.
“I thought he practiced fine last night. You know, I think there were some throws Chris could have made, but there were some throws he made that were really crucial but we didn’t catch them that could have changed the game. So when he still had to have them he had them, and they were tougher throws than the ones he missed. So I didn’t….sometimes guys got to make playa for guys, too. It goes both ways.
“I am not down on Chris at all. I think he is one of our leaders, one of our captains, and I think he has made a tremendous contribution to this football program the time he has been here.
“When I answered that question it was more in reference to if we don’t continue to do well then obviously I got to look…..it wasn’t any disrespect towards Chris.”

Ralph Reflects on Disappointing Loss to UVA

“It is stressful, but what’s different about this is maybe these kids are trying too hard, I don’t know. I don’t have any problem with their effort or their attitude. I know they’re disappointed when they turn the ball over, but it just seems to come up. I not only feel bad for us, but for them, too. I want them to be successful. I want them to understand the benefits and reap the rewards for their effort. That’s what’s a little bit different.
“Normally you’re grinding your teeth to find out what’s going wrong but these kids understand it. In the locker room after the game a couple of them stood up and said they have to start doing it. I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to help them get through this stage, whatever that is. It just lets the air out of the balloon when we have the turnovers. I mean, we’re moving the ball and everything’s going good. Then all of a sudden we make a 10-yard gain and we fumble the football or it gets tipped and intercepted. That’s what’s frustrating.
“I think we’re on a little string of bad luck, too. You just start scratching you’re head when those things happen.” Coach Friedgen’s comments from terrapintimes.com.

Ralph thought that perhaps Nick Ferrara was overused which led to him possibly missing the 2 4th quarter FGs. Travis Baltz hopefully will be back this week to handle the punting duties. Also, Ralph said to expect to see more of JaMarr Robinson and possibly Danny O’Brien at QB, figuring he has to get these guys some time at QB fo rthe future.
