The No. 13 Maryland women’s basketball team fell to ACC opponent Boston College 78-69 Thursday night. The Terrapins were led by junior Lynetta Kizer and freshman Alyssa Thomas who both notched double-doubles on the night. Kizer had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Thomas added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Terps (13-3, 0-2). It was Kizer’s 13th game in double figures this year. Her 22 points was one shy of her career high. Thomas notched her second straight double-double.

Maryland was 27-85 from the field—85 shots!!!

The Terps shot 12-28 from the foul line. What?

Maryland had 31 offensive rebounds and only 10 assists.

I counted 5 threes that went in and out fro the Terps. The Lady Terps will rebound quickly from this loss.

What an incredible final 2 minutes!! The Terrapins stepped up their defense and almost pulled a stunning upset over the top ranked tournament seed. A 35 foot jumper by Jackie Nared banged off the boards as the game ended. The Terps will have to wait until Monday March 15 to see if they receive and NCAA bid.

“Everybody in our locker room believed we were going to win,” Maryland’s Lori Bjork said. “That makes it tough to take. When you invest that much emotionally and think you’ve got it and believe you can do it and then not be able to win, it’s frustrating.”

• Sophomore Lynetta Kizer had 16 points on 4-for-10 shooting and going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. She added six rebounds and one steal.

•  Sophomore Anjale Barrett put up 15 points, her ninth double-figure point performance. She went 4-for-5 from the line, added one assist and two steals.

•  Senior Lori Bjork registered 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting, all from beyond the arc. She was also 2-for-2 from the free throw line, had one assist and one steal.

The Lady Terps defeated North Carolina in the 1st Round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday. Carolina stormed from behing to narrow a 12 point gap to 2 but KimRodgers nailed 2 clinching free throws to secure the win. Duke is next at 3PM on Friday

Sophomore Lynetta Kizer had 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field in the first half alone. She finished with 22 points total on 9-for-12 shooting. She was 1-for-1 from outside the arc and 3-for-3 from the foul line. She grabbed ten rebounds for another double-double.

•  Freshman Tianna Hawkins earned her sixth career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe and 4-for-6 from the field.

•  Freshman Dara Taylor had ten points, four rebounds and three assists. She was 3-for-10 from the field  and made four free throws.

•  Senior guard Lori Bjork added ten points herself with her 2-for-6 shooting from the field. Both shots were three’s and she was 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Freshman guard Dara Taylor scored 18 points with 5 assists abd 5 rebounds to lead the Terps to an easy home victory over the Tigers. Coach Frese commented after the game: “Obviously I’m very pleased to get a solid win, especially given the stretch coming off four games in nine days and the stretch that we’re in ACC play. I’m pleased obviously to see the dominance that we had on the glass tonight as well as stepping up and being able to knock down our free throws. Those are important areas that we’ve got to be able to have in ACC play.” Lynetta Kizer (pictured below) added 18 for the Terps including 10-10 from the free throw line. The Terps move to 18-8 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

Another heartbreaking loss for Brenda’s troops. The Lady Terps rallied back from a 17 point deficit and actually had Anjelae Barrett on the foul line with a pair of free throws and the Terps down by 2. She made the first but missed the 2nd game over–Terps are now 3-5 in the ACC. Despite the miss, Barrett played a stellar game scoring 14 with 7 assists. Today’s game was moved to 4PM because of the impending snowstorm.

Maryland fell to a feisty Miami team, 80-77. It was the first loss in Comcast Center since Feb. 18, 2007 when Duke defeated the Terps, 69-57. Maryland’s 48 home-game winning streak was one of the longest current streaks, second to UConn’s 53.  ”Every streak is going to come to an end at some point, but I’m proud of what we’ve created here,” head coach Brenda Frese said.  For the first time this season five players registered double-figure points. Leading the squad for Maryland was senior Lori Bjork with 17, freshman Tianna Hawkins had 14, sophomores Lynetta Kizer and Anjale Barrett each posted 14 and freshman Diandra Tchatchouang recorded 12. Bjork’s four treys marked the eighth consecutive time she has recorded multiple three’s in a game. (from umterps.com) Down by 3 Riguna Williams nailed 2 threes from NBA territory to defeat the Terps. Next up for Maryland –Duke at Comcast Sunday night at 8PM.

The Lady Terps combined an oddity of 63% shooting with 19 turnovers to defeat BC finn its home ACC opener on Thursday night.  Diandra Tchatchouang led the Terps with 18 points. The Terps are now 14-3 and 2-1 in the ACC.
