Pull the upset at Carolina and the Terps float back into the dance. Tough game for FSU without its leader Chris Singleton but the Terps did what they had to. It was great to see Adrian play a pivotal role in the game.

Dino Gregory continues to improve his game, now becoming integral in the offense. Terrell Stoglin made several key shots down the stretch. 4 days til Judgment Day!!!!

Memo-30 Gary ‘s Post Game Press Conference

This one really hurts. I journeyed up to Chesnut Hill todayand suffered through another nip and tuck battle that the Terps barely lost.

Some of the bad points:

Maryland had no answer for Reggie jackson who finished with 31 points on 12-16 shooting, including 1 of 5 threes very late in the game that served as the dagger.

The Terps fall to 5-5 in the conference in a game that was perceived to be a bubble game.

Adrian and Cliff just didn’t have it today as they combined for a mere 5 points in 37 minutes of play.

Jordan Williams could only muster 7 shots as he was double and triple team every time he touched the ball.

John Cahill , a 21 year old walk on Senior inspired the team and the crowd with 9 points in a strong 25 minutes.

Though the arena was a virtual sellout, where was the student body? BC officials told me only about 250 of the student tickets were claimed.

Some of the good points:

The 2 freshman guards were excellent today and we might even see them start together. The finished with a combined 28 points on 10-22 shooting.

Dino Gregory, again, was steady as could be finishing with 15 points on 6-11 shooting.

Myself and Jeff Barker talked to Jordan post game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI5XXKWpUO8

Some interesting points about Conte Forum:

It only hold 8600 in a one deck arena.

It is attached to the football stadium as some of the skyboxes can watch both venues.

Parking was within 1000 ft of the arena.

Clam Chowder is a staple at every food booth.

So now the Terps are up against the wall. If it is going to take 10 wins, to make the dance there is little room for error. 6 conference games remain including 1 tough one at Carolina. First up is Virginia Tech on the road Tuesday night.

Despite what the Dookies say this has turned into the game the nation watches in the ACC. Carolina is not the Carolina of even a few years back and when you look for what it takes to battle with Duke, Gary Williams might not have the same talent but he always has the answers. That’s why tomorrow night at 9, Steve Lavin, Tom Izzo, Bobby Knight, Dookie V, every great coach in the land will be tuned in to ESPN. At the game tomorrow night, we’ll see Wilbon, Kornheiser, Mike Wise, Steve Bishotti, probably Coach Harbaugh, Bruce Laird, maybe Cal Ripken. Why– because this game is the essence of a rivalry. Coach K and Gary respect each other but that’s where it ends. I have seen the Duke players after a win and a loss and believe me they don’t take this game lightly. I laugh when I read that Duke’s loss to the Johnnies will have them fired up for this game. Duke lost to St John’s because they were looking ahead to Maryland.

I have been to Cameron and seen the hatred in the eyes of the students for Greivis. I have seen the way the Dookies taunt the Maryland players, insult Coach Williams, and take it real personal. The same holds true at Comcast. This is a game that always matters. I remember seeing PeShon Howard at the game last year right after he verballed and he was so excited . This year Sterling Gibbs, Nick Faust , and hopefully Desmond Hubert will be there. Duke is number 5 in the nation and Maryland needs a big win. Let’s get it on!!!!!!

In the first game at Cameron , Maryland was up 38-32 in the 2nd half, basically on overmatching Duke in defensive intensity. Cliff Tucker was superb that night and will probably need to repeat his performance for Maryland to win. That night Stoglin and Bowie were a combined 1-15 from the field. Stoglin learned a lot that day and watch how aggressive PeShon and Terrell will be tomorrow night. Each game someone has been stepping up besides Jordan and that’s why the Terps are on a 3 game roll. Seth Curry and Tyler Thornton led Duke to victory in game 1 but that won’y happen tonight. It’s been Singler and Nolan Smith—-let’s see how Gary attacks it . I CAN”T WAIT

The schedule maker has not been kind to the Terps. The Terps stand at 0-2 in the conference at the moment and without looking ahead it seems like a 10-4 finish will be needed for the Terps to dance. This puts a tremendous premium on tonight’s game against the struggling Demon Deacons. At any time road games in the ACC are brutal. Despite Wake’s 7-9 start, the joint will be jumping and anything can happen. The Terps are a double digit point favorite as they really have been playing well. In the ACC it seems like you must always expect the unexpected. Does Gary tweak the lineup again, maybe putting Cliff back in the starting lineup for Adrian.? Does PeShon return after Stoglin’s weak performance. One thing is for sure, Gary is getting miles out of his 2 man front court combo of Dino and jordan. Look for the conference turnaround to start tonight!!!

The Terps exploded after the start of the 2nd half to a 38-32 lead but after Coach K tongue lashing to the Blue Devils , Duke stormed back and dominated the rest of the game. Little used sub, Tyler Thornton came off the bench for Duke with 3 steals, took 2 charges and provided much needed energy to the #1 team in the land. Jordan was his usual excellent self tonight nailing his 9th double double in a row–with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Dino Gregory scored 8 with 5 bounds in a strong effort.

The surprise player of the game for the Terps was Cliff Tucker off the bench with 14 points on 6-12 shooting. Again the foul line plaqued the Terps shooting 9-18. It’s funny that I had predicted we would need 30 points from Sean, Adrian, and Cliff to win—they got 23 and we lost by 7—just coincidence.

The perimeter play of the guards left a lot to be desired tonight. I expected Stoglin would have his problems in Cameron and unfortunately I was right . Terrell was 1-11 from the field but did have 5 assists. In fairness to him 3 three point shots went in and out of the bucket. Adrian Bowiewhose offense had improved finished the game with 1 point in 28 minutes.

Kyle Singler probably had the best game he has ever had against the Terps finishing with 25 points including 3 threes. Coach K praised Gary after the game saying the Terps had just given Duke the toughest game of the year so far. “Well it was a huge win for us because we played against as well-coached a team as we have played against all year. I mean Gary [Williams]’s a great friend but he’s a great coach and his game plan against us was magnificent. They did everything possible to take Nolan [Smith] out of the game. They really crowded the paint, hopefully you can hit some shots which we didn’t any shots and they just played a really strong aggressive, physical, game. They were very good, I mean really good. We haven’t been in a game like that. Michigan State was the closest but even then I thought we were more the aggressor and tonight for the first 24 minutes they were the aggressor.”

So for the Terps, this sets up a must win situation against Wake Forest on the road Wednesday night. The Team has lost 5, any of which could have been in the win column. gary still seems confident the team will turn it around quickly. The BC loss still stings, especially when you see who they have lost to.

I was supposed to be in Durham tonight for the game but I was hit with a case of strep throat Friday night. It did cut down my yelling at the screen.

Gary has chosen to stay with his upperclassmen as starters but should they slump the hook will be quick. BC is off to a good start despite an improbable loss to Yale at Chesnut Hill. Wins over Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Providence, and UMass highlight a 7-2 record. Reggie Jackson and Joe Trepani lead the way for he Eagles. YES I AM PUMPED UP. The real season begins today. look for Sean Mosley to lead the Terps to victory today. Just my opinion.

How can this be our 8th loss in the last 10 BB&T games? I am inclined to have give a positive spin on last night’s game. Pe”Shon Howard and Terrell Stoglin are flat out bball studs. They brought this team out of the doldrums and gave the Temple backcourt fits. Stoglin has that look for scoring. He looks for his shot and is not afraid to take it. The starting lineup is severely lacking that go to situation. Only through Gary’s elevated coaching has Maryland been able to make up the deficits the starters sans Williams (Jordan that is) have put them in. Last night Tucker, Dino and Adrian were a combined 1-9 from the field in 72 minutes of Playing time.Stoglin and Pe”Shon were always attacking the bucket not backing off. Furthermore, Pe”Shon was the only player able to stop Juan Fernandez down the wire.

Jordan Williams was solid as always 11-17 from the field and 11 rebounds but the secret is out –he is beginning to get double and triple teamed down under. Someone else must score. 21 points in the 1st half will never beat a good team. The real season –the ACC one that is starts next Sunday. with a record of 1-3 in marquis games (that’s including Penn State) a strong ACC record is vital. Cliff, Adrian , and Dino just don’t seem to have these problems at home but 8 conference games are on the road. Thank heavens we have Gary Williams as Coach.
