When the New England Patriots sent Randy Moss packing , it was simply a case of addition by subtraction. Same story here. For the last 3 years Gilbert was a curse to the Wizards but his contract was so stron, nothing could be done to extricate him. Not anymore, Good luck Stan Van Gundy . Maybe you are a miracle worker.

By the way, only the Wizards could have found a way to lose to Miami last night–up by 5 with 32 seconds left. Josh Howard was a welcome addition back on the roster though he did miss a couple of key free throws.

NBA commissioner David Stern suspended Washington Wizards guards Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for the remainder of the NBA season Wednesday, and ESPN.com learned that Arenas has agreed not to appeal the punishment. Stern’s disciplinary actions were announced Wednesday afternoon after Arenas met face-to-face with Stern for the first time since the gun incident that put Arenas’ future with the Wizards in doubt. It’s really sad to watch Gilbert take himself down. Where was his guidance? Where were his friends? I just don’t get it. After all that has happened with the guns in the locker room, etc it seemed like Gilbert was trying to right a sinking ship by cooperating fully with the authorities. But then in Philadelphia he pulled the finger shooting gag. That seemed to be the last straw for Commisioner Stern, who responded with an indefinite suspension for Gilbert. We might not ever see him in a Wizards uniform again.

Something is really wrong here. Gilbert is a strange and quirky guy, who acts to the beat of his own drum. This recent gun-toting behavior seems way out of character for him. I can’t imagine the Wizards gave him a 6 year $111 million dollar contract thinking the incidents of the past few weeks were even possible. I am not sure how it can be handled but this young man needs help and needs it quickly. Forget his performance this year, I can say from my limited interactions with him, Gilbert is basically a friendly, decent guy.

Flip you better learn soon that this is not the Gilbert of yesteryear. Cut to the chase—The Bullets are down by 1 with 16 seconds left and Gilbert has the ball. He lets the clock go down to 5 seconds then starts his vintage moves and he has the ball stolen from him by Tyreke Evans–yes the same guy who did the Terps in against Memphis last year. Gilbert scored 33 but once again failed down the stretch. The Wiz fll to 7-17 sinking into a deep abyss.

When Gilbert was an unsigned free agent, I wanted the Wizards to go after Baron Davis instead.(The larry Byrd exception was the reason I was given for the decision and it is understandable) Tonight you saw the difference in the 2. Gilbert’s 2 year injury hiatus has effected all his rhythm especially down the stretch. The Wizards were up 64-47 midway in the 3rd period and would up getting outscored 50-31 down the wire. Agent Zero made several sloppy plays and was eventually sent to the bench for the final stretch. The Wiz are now 7-15 and losing control of the season.
