As soon as I heard Syracuse goalie Galloway was ill and the backup goalie was replacing him, I sensed the Terps were in trouble. Why? Sometimes when a kid is thrown into a brutal situation he either rises to the occasion or his team gets so pumped up to save the unknwon.

To me the first few minutes were crucial, Maryland’s failure to score on their early possessions was their undoing. The Terp’s needed to be on top of this game not struggling to stay in it.

Will Yeatman needs much more stick work practice to effective at this level. Will did not score a goal since the Navy game.

Catalino, Ryan Young, and Jeremy Sieverts carried the offensive loaded fo rthe Terps today.

Whe Brian Phipps went out with that freak injury, I was convinced it was time to get out the golf clubs. Jason Carter gave up 9 goals in 3 periods.

Fourteen seniors played their last game as a Terp today and for that I salute all of them. Brian Phipps and most of the entire attack and defense corps will live to fight another day.

Brian Phipps started again, played 3 periods and had 8 saves. Dan Groot scored 3 times as Maryland awaits next Friday night’s game against Carolina in the ACC Tournament. The Terrapins might just need a win over the Tar Heels to insure a NCAA berth.

The #2 Lady Terps moved to 16-0 today, thrashing the Hokies 16-6. In a game that might tell the tale of the NCAA tourney, UVA plays host to the #1 and 4 time defending champ, Northwestern Wildcats. Kelly Amonte Hiller’s team have been steamrolling over all opponents

The Terrapins are at a crossroads today. After 2 brutal losses to Hopkins and UVA, the Terps need 3 more wins to safely place themselves in the NCAA tournament. A few weeks ago this might have looked like a soft game, but not anymore. Two weeks ago #1Princeton needed Overtime to defeat the Quakers and last week Penn defeated #11 Brown. The Terps will probably be without Will Yeatman, recovering from an ankle injury. Most likely Jason Carter will be in the nets. The game is at 4:30 with no radio or TV coverage.

Karri Ellen Johnson scored 5 goals leading the Lady Terps to a come from behind victory over Johns Hopkins today. The Lady Terps came out flat and the Lady Bluejays came out hungry. The result was a 5-4 halftime lead for JHU. But the Terps came alive in the 2nd half to move their record to 15-0. Maryland is now 11-0 against Hopkins.

It seemed like the offense looked more cohesive early on without Yeatman. I wonder what Dave Cottle thought and how will he bring Will back into the lineup Tuesday.

Looking ahead, the Terrapins have 3 games left that barring something strange whould be in the win column–Binghamton, Penn, and Yale. That would give them 9 wins. Coming up will be the ACC Tournament. Even a first round loss will leave the Terps at 9-6 which should be enought to get in. On the hand, there is no reason the Terps can’t win the Championship, a dynamic which I am beginning to believe might happen.

Cottle was very optimistic after the game Saturday. can the breaks keep going against the Terps. the UVA game still lingers in my memory.

I thought Brian Phipps played great Saturday. Is it Jason Carter on Tuesday?

Yesterday I forgot to mention that defenseman Mac Schmidt held Hopkins great Stephen Boyle scoreless.

Bryn Holmes wins 11 of 13 faceoffs and again the Terrapins thoroughly dominate Air Force in capturing the Wounded warrior Project Title. Watching the game over a special network, it seemed like the Terps had the ball the entire final 3 quarters. The Terrapins return home 2-0 and face Georgetown next Saturday at 1PM. Some observations on the game.

Whatever chance Air Force had was eliminated by another strong performance by Brian Phipps in the first quarter.

Besides Yeatman’s 2 goals and 4 assists, Ryan Young Tallied 3 goals, Jeremy Sievrts had 2 goals and Dan Burns also scored twice. Sophomore Grant Catalino extended his scoring streak to 15 games with a goal and three assists. Catalino also pushed his multi-point scoring streak to eight games. Florida native, Jake Bernhardt scored twice in front of many of his friends and family.

If you think you will see this Maryland team sit on a lead, you are wrong. The pedal was down to the medal the entire game.

Grant Catalino, Dan Groot and Travis Reed each scored twice and added a pair of assists to lead the third-ranked Maryland men’s lacrosse team to a 18-3 victory over Presbyterian in the opening contest of the Wounded Warrior Project’s “Face Off for a Cause” fundraising event. Senior midfielder Jeff Reynolds, who finished with two goals and an assist, got things off to a quick start for the Terps, scoring the game’s first goal just 13 seconds into the contest.

Maryland then rattled off nine straight goals to take a 10-0 lead five minutes into the second quarter. Junior Will Yeatman led the charge with a goal and two assists during the run. He finished his Terrapin debut with a goal and three helpers. Also during the 10-goal spurt were a couple of scores from defenders Brian Farrell, who also added an assist, and Brett Schmidt. Freshman Joe Cummings got his first-career goal during the run.

I have had a great feeling about Cottle’s guys and I continue to. This attack might rival any attack in the recent history of lacrosse. Bryn Holmes is the key to this team; if he continues to win the draws like he did today (12 of 14) the sky is the limit for the Terps!!!!
