Yes the Terps are defending National Champions. Yes they are #1 in the Nation. Yes they are proud to be ACC Champs. But now it’s time for some unfinished business. Okay Sunday is Game Time. The 2 best teams have survived the playoffs and are left standing. No Caitlyn McFadden –no Katrina Dowd–NO EXCUSES —let’s get it on!!!!!

The fiery Aussie, Sarah Mollison. has stepped for the Terps in the absence of Terrapin superstar Karrie Ellen Johnson. Katie Schwarmann is the fastest player in the game. Dipper has been awesome in the nets. Laura Merrifield game in game out for 2 years is the model of consistency. I will have more to say after the game Sunday. Here is the recap of the game:

A tenacious defensive effort quelled a normally potent Blue Devil attack Friday as top-seeded Maryland topped No. 5 Duke, 14-8, in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. Fueled by the energy from Maryland’s stingy defensive showing, senior Sarah Mollison and sophomore Katie Schwarzmann propelled the offense with four goals apiece. Senior Laura Merrifield added a hat trick. Maryland (21-1) got the better end of a low-scoring affair in the first half, taking a 5-2 lead into halftime. The Terps bested their rival in nearly every category, including a 5-3 advantage in the integral draw control. Mollison and Merrifield led the attack in the first stanza with two goals apiece. from umterps.com

Hats off to Kelly Amonte Hiller for leading her Wildcats to their 5th consecutive NCAA Championship. But the dream match up never occurred. What happened? This was not the Terrapin team I saw throughout the year. North Carolina was not really in Maryland’s league. That being said, the Lady Terps just seemed flat. Sometimes an undefeated team is taken out of it game by trailing late, but the Terps battled from behind often through the year displaying a swagger that you had to respect. But when the score is tied at 7 with 8 minutes left, it’s anybody’s game.Karri Ellen Johnson held the troops together with 4 goals and Sarah Mollison was her tough feisty self scoring twice including the tieing goal at 7.

7500 saw the Friday doubleheader (a NCAA record) but the aftermath left an empty anticipation of the title game. There is no way Northwestern would have blitzed the Terps but we will never know. The good news is that Maryland’s entire starting lineup returns next year. Knowing these kids, they have only one mission.
