I know Alyssa Thomas is a key ingredient to this team but… She was out tonight nursing a sore thumb. But there is enough talent to beat a 7-15 Virginia Tech team at home even without her. This one will hurt deeply in the rankings. Brenda said post game: “Obviously an extremely difficult loss tonight. Not a lot of things that I can say we did well – defense, rebounding, turnovers – when you have 20 turnovers against a non-pressing team. We gave away a lot of easy baskets. Credit Virginia Tech, I thought they had a lot more energy and were more inspired. Obviously, [Monet] Tellier tying a career-high 31 points, we didn’t have an answer for her defensively. I’m just extremely disappointed for our seniors, for this team in terms of how we played tonight.”

Maryland’s young basketball team appears to have finally grown up. Alyssa Thomas had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and the 15th-ranked Terrapins had four other players score in double figures Sunday in an 88-65 victory over No. 10 North Carolina. It was Thomas’ fourth double in her first five ACC games. Coach Brenda Frese knew it would take a while for a team with six freshmen and not a single senior to play at its best. Judging by Maryland’s performance against the Tar Heels, that time is now. “You could see our confidence this game at an all-time high,” Frese said. “You’re starting to see a team coming together. … This is a great opportunity for us to gain momentum with what we’re doing.” Diandra Tchatchouang scored 13, Lynetta Kizer and Alicia DeVaughn each had 12, and Laurin Mincy added 10 points for the Terrapins (16-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Some interesting stat lines: Terps shot 92% from the line Terps outrebounded Carolina 55-32 The Terps still had 28 turnovers. When they can get the turnovers under control, the sky is the limit for this Terrapin team.

What a strange game!!!I went to College Park after Terp Talk and watched 1 strange half of basketball.

Maryland was 27-85 from the field—85 shots!!!

The Terps shot 12-28 from the foul line. What?

Maryland had 31 offensive rebounds and only 10 assists.

I counted 5 threes that went in and out fro the Terps. The Lady Terps will rebound quickly from this loss.
