Terps in 7th Place for The Directors Cup

On the strength of a solid fall, Maryland ranks seventh in the current Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings which were released Wednesday. The Terps have 273 points. Stanford leads the way with 399 and North Carolina is second (380). Ohio State (369), Florida State (361.50) and Penn State (300) round out the top five. The ACC has set the pace heading into the winter championships by having five of its schools finish in the top 10. Duke is ninth and Virginia ranks 10th.

All eight fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: men’s cross country – Oklahoma State; women’s cross country – Villanova (Pa.); women’s field hockey – Maryland; women’s soccer – Notre Dame; men’s soccer – Akron; men’s water polo – Southern California; women’s volleyball – Penn State; FCS football – Eastern Washington; FBS football – Auburn.

ESPN Ranks Maryland #17 in Preseason Poll

Andy Katz has released his final Top 25 Preseason Poll for College Basketball, and the Terps have earned the 17th spot on the list.

Greivis Vasquez‘ decision to return gives Gary Williams the ammunition he needs to build a tough-minded, gritty bunch once again, with eight of the team’s nine top scorers back.

This is an accurate ranking for the Terps heading into the season. Everyone knows what Greivis can do for this team, and Bowie, Milbourne and Mosley will also continue to improve and contribute. If Jordan Williams and James Padget can contribute at a high level from the start of the season, look for the Terps to be ranked even higher.

Former Terp Fokou Signs 4-Year Contract With Eagles

Congrats to Moise Fokou, former Terp linebacker, as he signed a 4-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday. Fokou was drafted with the 230th pick in the 7th round of this year’s draft, and was the third of five Terps to be taken in the draft.

Fokou came to the Terps as a walk-on, but made a name for himself quickly. He led the team in special teams tackles the past two seasons, and he is expected to make an immediate impact on the Eagles as well.

All of us here at Terp Talk want to congratulate Moise Fokou and wish him the best of luck in his NFL career.
