The Washington Post is reporting that former Montrose Christian shooting guard Terrence Ross, who recently broke off his oral commitment to Maryland, will finish his senior season at Westwind Academy in Phoenix, the prep school’s boys’ basketball coach confirmed Friday.  Ross, rated the No. 43 overall prospect in the Class of 2010 by Rivals.com, withdrew from Montrose Christian on Tuesday and returned to his home town of Portland, Ore.

The mystery that surrounds Terrence Ross leaving Montrose Christian remains. It’s impossible to be going to a better team. There is probably no better high school coach in the country. The season is 5 or 6 weeks away from completion. The Washington Post reported on Vetter’s comments today: “I’m not going to talk about it other than to say that Terrence has withdrawn from Montrose,” Vetter said. “It was a parental decision, and we wish him well.”

Ever since signing day passed and Ross didn’t pull the trigger for the Terps, this story has gotten strange. Now Ross is reported by the Washington Post to be leaving Stu Vetter and Montrose almost immediately in the middle of the season. Where will this one play out?

Yes he was upset that Ross backed off his verbal committment. Also, Ross can make no visits during the season as this is one of Vetter’s rules. Just for the record Gary and his staff have done everything possible to land Terrence and will continue to do so.  Let’s adopt a wait and see on this one!!

Montrose Christian basketball coach Stu Vetter confirmed today that senior shooting guard Terrence Rosswithdrew his commitment to Maryland “within the week.” “He has reopened his recruitment,” Vetter said. “He’s going to reopen it for a limited number of schools — no more than four or five. Maryland is still very strong in the picture. He just felt that he wanted to open it up and make sure he was making an informed decision. And that’s pretty much it.”Vetter said Ross, a four-star prospect who grew up in Portland, Ore., is not looking at any West Coast schools. There are four programs, in particular, that he’s currently focused on.  “Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Maryland,” Vetter said. “He has limited who he [is considering]. Not anybody can come in and recruit him. Our rule, also, is that there will be no official visits until our season is over. And as far as recruiting during our season, the No. 1 priority is his academic work and the Montrose basketball team.”

Coach Vetter said there were 4 Eastern schools, including Maryland, in the hunt. The other 3 schools were certainly basketball powers according to the coach. Coach Vetter does not allow visits during the season, so most certainly a decision would most likely be put off until the spring.

But speculation in the Washington Post (naturally), Rivals.com and even the terrapintimes.com, appears to be declaring that Ross is being wooed by other schools but Maryland is still deep in the mix.
