Terps Fall in 7 Overtimes to Virginia After Having Victory Stolen From Them in the 1st OT

Call it sour grapes, call it whatever you want , I am still sick over the way the Terrapins were robbed of a season making victory today at #1 UVA. The Cavaliers are now a tainted 11-0. Yeatman , and Travis Reed each scored twice giving the Terps a 9-6 lead with 6 minutes left. But then lightning struck as UVA scored 3 times in 1 minute to tie the game and also have a 2 man advantage for a minute. Brian Phipps and the defense stiffened up and stopped the Cavs sending the game into overtime. Here comes the travesty. Bryn Holmes wins the faceoff and passes to Grant Catalino who fires past the UVA goalie to score the winning goal. But just as he was shooting one of the refs blew an inadvertent whistle and the zebras took the goal away from the Terps. Then 6 overtimes were played with an abundance of weak shots, good saves, and general overstrategizing by both coaches. Maryland out shot (52-37), won the faceoff battle 15-11 and groundball battle 43-40 but lost the game. Virginia middie Max Pomper delivered the cheapest shot I have seen in years on Grant Catalino and was not ejected from the game. But remember the name Pomper because there is bound to be a repeat of this game later in the season. Cottle must get the guys back up for a Friday night game at Navy. Steele Stanwick stood out for UVA scoring 4 goals. It’s midnight and I am still sick about this game.

    11-0*

Horrible refs. I’ve never seen anything like that — literally canceling our game-winning goal for no reason.
