Heartbreak City–Hopkins Holds On to Beat Terps 10-9 on Rivals Day

In a knockdown drag em out battle this afternoon, Johns Hopkins outlasted Maryland in a crucial game for both teams. A last second incredible play by Ryan Young and Grant Catalino was nullified by an unbelievable save by Hopkins Goalie Mike Gvozden. The Terps’ middies stepped up in the 2nd half and almost overcame some incredible calls by the officials. Brian Phipps also was exceptional in the nets for Maryland recording 11 saves, many at point blank range. Faceoff specialists Matt Dolente and Bryn Holmes staged a war for every draw. Hopkins held a 10-8 advantage and then went into a delay game with about 6 minutes left. The strategy almost backfired as Dan Groot scored with 30 seconds left and then according to Coach Petramala “Gvozden bailed me out with a remarkable save.” Coach Cottle was optimistic after the contest saying watch out for his team the rest of the way. Will Yeatman missed the game with an ankle injury, creating an opportunity for Travis Reed to start. Travis had an excellent game scoring once and assisting once. The Terrapins are now 6-5 and face must win situations this week against Binghamton and Penn.
