Drew Yates scored with 1:22 remaining in regulation to salvage a 1-1 tie as the No. 4 Maryland men’s soccer team embarked on its first road trip of the 2009 season at No. 23 North Carolina State. The Terps, which were forced to play a man down after a red card was issued in the 37th minute, got on the board at 88:38 when Yates connected for his second goal of the season. Maryland out-shot N.C. State, 13-8, on the match but the Wolfpack held a 2-1 shot advantage in the two overtime periods. Maryland keeper Zac MacMath had a season-high five saves, including a critical one in the second overtime stanza. N.C. State entered Saturday’s match as the top scoring team in the ACC.
